Second Ring Launches as the UK’s New Cheapest Landline Provider

LONDON, UK. December, 2025 – New UK telecoms provider Second Ring has launched a standalone digital landline service that allows customers to keep a home phone number without being tied to a specific broadband contract.

In most mainstream packages from major providers, line rental is now bundled together with broadband, with typical combined prices in the mid-£20s to around £30 per month depending on the deal and discounts applied.

SecondRing’s service is designed for customers who still want a landline but would prefer to shop around separately for cheaper broadband.

Under the new model, customers can move (port) their existing landline number to Second Ring. Once the number has been moved, they are free to choose any broadband provider, including lower-cost fibre or mobile broadband options, without affecting their landline service.

SecondRing is also introducing what it describes as the first UK consumer-focused pay-as-you-go digital landline, with access charges starting from £2.50 per month. Instead of a fixed, high monthly line-rental, users pay a small recurring fee to keep their number active and then pay only for the calls they make.

SecondRing says the approach is aimed at households that still need a landline number (for family, older relatives, alarms or security systems) but make few outgoing calls, customers who want to avoid being locked into a single broadband and phone bundle, and small businesses and sole traders who need a geographic landline number but want the freedom to choose cheaper or more flexible broadband deals.

The service is delivered over internet (VoIP) technology and can be used with an analogue telephone adapter, an IP desk phone or a softphone app on computers and smartphones. The launch comes as the UK continues its transition from traditional analogue phone lines to digital voice services delivered over broadband networks, a process being overseen by Ofcom and Openreach.
